I can think of nothing really to say about it*, so will just give you some details.
The pattern for the round ends is a modified version of the Granny Mandala from 'Crochet with Raymond'.
The stitch pattern for the main body is one I came up with (each shell is 2trtog, 1ch, 2trtog).
I purposefully created a ridge where the ends and main body are joined by crocheting the pieces together with the wrong sides facing.
It closes with 4 mis-matched buttons. There was no need to make button holes - they go between the shells.
When I put it on the sofa I noticed that the cushions I made last year look a bit shabby due mostly to my children suffering from an almost pathological desire to throw cushions off the sofa. Is this a trait that all children share, I wonder?
Hook:: 4mm
Yarn:: cotton dk, various brands
Pattern:: see above
Bolster cushion insert:: Ikea
* I am indifferent to it, truth be told, only finishing it out of sheer bloody-mindedness!!

ReplyDeleteVery pretty! And, yes, I'm constantly picking up blankets and cushions from the floor. :-)

Me gusta la combinación de colores utilizados en este cojín redondo
ReplyDeleteMy husband removes cushions too - he has no appreciation of a nice soft cushion.
ReplyDeleteLove your colour choices.
Yes all kids!!And I love the cushion!!That's a lovely stitch!!Looks like rows of mini hearts.
ReplyDeleteWell, good on you for finishing it, even if you are a bit over it. It looks great. :-)
ReplyDeleteCaz from Never Knew :)
That is soooo pretty, I think throwing cushions off of sofa's is a universal thing for kids young and old....until of course, one's really really really needed for the head or back, and then there's usually none to be found!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a lovely bolster - i am definately putting it on my 'to do' list...
ReplyDeleteIndifferent? INDIFFERENT to it????? WHAT ON EARTH???????? It's bloody gorgeous. I love the 2trtog custer stitch. That is gorgeous and I am going to be 'pinteresting' it straight away.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are bloody minded as I've enjoyed this post and you have solved a minor problem I had regarding a bolster cushion I have half started for Little's room. I was procrastinating over how to do the circle ends. Oh happy solution, I'll copy you!!

ReplyDeleteRight now, there's a pillow and blankie fort on the floor in my living room. My 5 yr. old grandson loves to make those.
ReplyDeleteYour bolter pillow is beautiful - love everything about it. :)
It seems that we spend our time picking up things from the floor...Is that a special job for mums only??!! It is really annoying... specially when your home is full of crochet-so-cherished-blankets-and-cushions!
ReplyDeleteAnd the one you just did is simply GORGEOUS :D Really really gorgeous! Love the shape and the colors:)
Have a nice evening,
Angie

Hi Victoria, how can you be indifferent to it??? It's lovely! I do love the way all your cushions go together, including the fabric one. When I put all that I've made together, it looks like a right mish-mash :(
ReplyDeleteGorgeous range of colours you've used too - love them!

My kids chuck cushions on the floor too, not sure why. Beautiful cushion, will have to try out that stitch as it's a nice change from the standard treble stitch. And I love that you used mismatched buttons - just what I would have done! x
ReplyDeleteThat stitch you used is great!! I shall try it out!
ReplyDeleteLove the bolster cushion! Yes indeed, my 3 year old firmly believes that cushions and throws belong on the floor!! x
ReplyDeleteHello Victoria, what a great idea: I need to cover 2 of our bolster cushions and there is your post. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCheers from Belgium
Hi Victoria - love the cover, the colours and the cluster stitch. And it look so lovely with all the other beauties around it! Love from South Africa
ReplyDeleteIt's not just children that throw the cushions on the floor..husbands, young twenties, and dogs... naughty puppy dogs... they drag them into the garden and throw them in the air!! (It's ok... he has grown out of it now)... but I love your bolster cushion and I have a huge one from One illage that I want to cover..this patter would be just right... thanks for showing us. ReplyDeleteme he pasado por blog en busca de amigas del ganchillo y otras labores, veo que te gusta y eso me hace sentir que no estoy sola, a veces pienso que a nadie le interesa las labores del pasado, un saludo afectuoso desde Asturias
ReplyDeleteSo pretty and I really like the pattern you made up. -The stitch pattern for the main body is one I came up with (each shell is 2trtog, 1ch, 2trtog).- I tried it but it looks nothing like yours. I must be doing it wrong. Did you right a pattern for it?
ReplyDeleteI just reread what I wrote, I must have been tired. Did you WRITE not right a pattern. Still curious if you did or not. I really love the way it looks and would love to make a blanket just not sure how to get it started.
ReplyDeleteJust had to comment that I wanted to crochet a bolster cover amd when I googled this post came up. I have been totally inspired by it and am now halfway through making the main body having spent much time today trying to figure out how many stitches I needed etc. Thanyou so much for sharing :o)
