Off the hook :: bolster cushion cover

Finally, a finished crochet project.  A bolster cushion cover for the kitchen settee...

I can think of nothing really to say about it*, so will just give you some details.

The pattern for the round ends is a modified version of the Granny Mandala from 'Crochet with Raymond'.

The stitch pattern for the main body is one I came up with (each shell is 2trtog, 1ch, 2trtog).

I purposefully created a ridge where the ends and main body are joined by crocheting the pieces together with the wrong sides facing.

It closes with 4 mis-matched buttons. There was no need to make button holes - they go between the shells.

When I put it on the sofa I noticed that the cushions I made last year look a bit shabby due mostly to my children suffering from an almost pathological desire to throw cushions off the sofa.  Is this a trait that all children share, I wonder?

Hook:: 4mm
Yarn:: cotton dk, various brands
Pattern:: see above
Bolster cushion insert:: Ikea

* I am indifferent to it, truth be told, only finishing it out of sheer bloody-mindedness!!

  8. That is soooo pretty, I think throwing cushions off of sofa's is a universal thing for kids young and old....until of course, one's really really really needed for the head or back, and then there's usually none to be found!

    Glad you are bloody minded as I've enjoyed this post and you have solved a minor problem I had regarding a bolster cushion I have half started for Little's room. I was procrastinating over how to do the circle ends. Oh happy solution, I'll copy you!!

  13. It seems that we spend our time picking up things from the floor...Is that a special job for mums only??!! It is really annoying... specially when your home is full of crochet-so-cherished-blankets-and-cushions!
    And the one you just did is simply GORGEOUS :D Really really gorgeous! Love the shape and the colors:)
    Have a nice evening,

  27. Hi Victoria, how can you be indifferent to it??? It's lovely! I do love the way all your cushions go together, including the fabric one. When I put all that I've made together, it looks like a right mish-mash :(
    Gorgeous range of colours you've used too - love them!

  28. My kids chuck cushions on the floor too, not sure why. Beautiful cushion, will have to try out that stitch as it's a nice change from the standard treble stitch. And I love that you used mismatched buttons - just what I would have done! x

(It's ok... he has grown out of it now)... but I love your bolster cushion and I have a huge one from One illage that I want to cover..this patter would be just right... thanks for showing us. 35. So pretty and I really like the pattern you made up. -The stitch pattern for the main body is one I came up with (each shell is 2trtog, 1ch, 2trtog).- I tried it but it looks nothing like yours. I must be doing it wrong. Did you right a pattern for it?

  36. I just reread what I wrote, I must have been tired. Did you WRITE not right a pattern. Still curious if you did or not. I really love the way it looks and would love to make a blanket just not sure how to get it started.
