This week...

I've nearly finished my knitted cushion cover. I've one segment left to knit and then it just needs to be sewn together. I reckon the challenge then will be finding a circular cushion pad. Any ideas where I can get one from, UK readers?

I've just covered a plain cream light shade with some pretty Laura Ashley fabric for #1's room. I ordered this fabric for a roman blind which I got a lovely lady called Kath to make for me. When I went to pick up the finished blind Kath mentioned that I'd ordered way too much fabric. I checked the order form and, as I thought, I'd ordered 2 metres to make a blind with a drop of 165cm. It's strange that Laura Ashley decided to send me 3.5 metres instead of 2 metres, but I don't think I'll ring them to complain.

Mothering Sunday involved cake, of course. A Norwegian spiced chocolate cake from Scandilicious. I forgot to take a picture of it, so here's the one from the book. I'd been looking for an excuse to make this cake, so Mothering Sunday came in quite handy. It's a marble cake spiced with nutmeg and cinnamon and with a chocolate/coffee buttercream.

Mothering Sunday also involved trying to teach #1 to knit. Which involved me having to teach myself to knit left-handed. This was tough, especially the casting on, but we're getting there. Slowly.

There's been more cake since Sunday - a banana and chocolate loaf. I need to stop baking. It was a bit of a struggle to get my jeans on this morning.

    1. Looking forward to seeing your cushion cover and good luck with finding the circular insert.
Those cakes look delicious, especially that first one. Yum.
Teaching little ones to knit is challenging but you have a far greater challenge with a left hander. Have fun.
      Enjoy your day,

  2. Gorgeous fabric. I've bought circular cushion pads from Dunelm Mills before - only feather pads available no foam pads. Quite good quality and cheap, but they can be a bit stinky!!
    best wishes, Karen xx

  3. I have just finished a circular cushion...check out my blog tomorrow for a post. I've had my cushion pad for ages, but from memory it came from John Lewis. If like me you don't actually live near a John Lewis (sniff) then try Allshapes Cushions

  7. I love cinnamon, so must check out your cake. I've also tried to find a circular cushion locally to no avail, so keep meaning to google it.

Well done for teaching yourself left handed first, that can't have been easy, I know my left handed crocheting friend taught herself to knit recently, but she researched a lot first as she reckoned some of he sights weren't very accurate in their methods....have fun!

  13. Hello Vitcoria
My goodness you have been busy! Thank you for you kind comments and well wishes...fighting fit now and driving...so I'm off, taking everything at a slower pace though. I have been crocheting granny garden squares so enough to make a cushion, and at least my time recovering I will have a TAH DAH to reveal and not a WIP just need to sew it altogether too. Love the LA fabric and that cake really does look Scandilicious thanks for the link ...have just bought a copy :O oops can never resist a good cookbook!
    Ha en trevligt helg
    LOVE PEACE enJOY!

  14. For a round cushion cover, I just find an old square cushion pad, take out the stuffing, draw a circle the size I need on the material of the pad,cut and sew, leaving a gap to re-stuff and voila....a round cushion pad!Your cakes look fab!

  16. I love those cute kiddie knitting needles! Good luck with teaching your little one.
My neighbour wants me to teach her to crochet and she's left-handed, so that will be interesting too!
I bought my feather circular cushion pad from Dunelm Mill also. Mine's quite big (about 18 inches I reckon). I really must get round to finishing it...

  18. Can you make a circular pad from an old pillow-slip and some wadding? I think that would be a cheaper option.

What a serendipitous mistake in the fabric.
