Off the hook :: Snood

What's the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the word snood? Well, I don't know about you, but I can't help but think of Nik Kershaw wearing a snood and fingerless gloves to play 'Wouldn't it be good' on Top of the Pops circa 1984. Check out the link to see 1980's hair and fashion at it's best. You won't be disappointed!

Now I've put that image and tune into your heads to annoy you for the rest of the afternoon, let me show you the snood I finished yesterday.

So much nicer than Nik's yellow jersey snood, I'm sure you'll agree!

4 balls of Rowan Cashsoft DK that I found in a bargain bin went into this. Cashsoft DK is a blend of merino, microfibre and cashmere, so it is deliciously soft and warm. What it was doing in a bargain bin I'll never know.

I confess I was a little bored of making it by the end because of all those puff stitches, but the stitch pattern is perfect for a snood or scarf. The puff stitches lend warmth, texture and definition and the more open V-stitches lend drape and a surprising lightness.

This is intended for a Christmas gift but I'm going to find it hard to part with.

Hook :: 6.0mm

Yarn :: Four 50g balls of Rowan Cashsoft DK in shade 00505, Mist, a soft grey

Pattern :: Classic Snood from Erika Knight's 'Crochet Workshop' or 'Love Crochet' magazine

Length :: 130cm before joining the ends

Enjoy your weekend all! Let's hope it doesn't snow too much...

  2. Wow...
    I cannot get used to the term 'snood', because in Dutch the word is used to say someone is plotting and scheming. So it is a long stretch between snood ang the gorgeous cowl you made!

  4. For me a snood is like a hair net - this is definitely not like that! I like the stitch pattern in this and the drape is lovely. I think you should keep it. xxx

  6. Very pretty, though I, too, would have called it a cowl not a snood. Odd how words change meaning isn't it?
