My problem with it is the join-as-you-go method. I find I am obsessed with adjoining squares not having the same colours in the same rounds (if that make sense). So I spend too long agonising about colour choice and not enough time actually crocheting. Rationally I know that in the long run it just won't matter. No-one is going to stand back and say 'Oooo, look, those two squares both have green for the second round. How shoddy!'. I also know that if I made all the squares first and joined them afterwards the same thing would happen.
So I plan the next strip of squares before I make them, although I often change it as I go along.
So I plan the next strip of squares before I make them, although I often change it as I go along.
So, after decided to be more relaxed about the colours I was cracking on nicely until I ran out of yarn today...
I got another 12 squares out of those little balls of yarn before running out of both pink and green (132 squares made and joined so far). I'm hoping not to lose my motivation before the new yarn arrives. I've told myself I can't do anything with my Amy Butler yarn until this blanket is finished.
Maybe calling it the 'Spring' blanket will help too... I'll aim to be finished by the end of March. That should be achievable.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend - try and keep warm! x

It's going to be a beauty Victoria x Penelope

It is looking gorgeous, Victoria! It is very cheery. Well done! :)

It's lovely and the colours all work really well together. Looking forward to seeing it when it is finished. Hope you have a lovely weekend :0) x
ReplyDeleteThat was precisely the problem I had when I made my 400 squares blanket. I was fast at making the squares but took ages to decide which colours to use so I used to sit and write out the order of all the squares for each row of 20 and then whip them up in no time.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking great, keep going all the agonising will be worth it when you have a beautiful new blanket to enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteI love the way you're bargaining with yourself Victoria !!
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be an amazing blanket. :)
Happy weekend and keep warm,
Vivienne xxx
It's looking wonderful so far Victoria, I know what you mean about the colour choice delaying your progress....have the same problem with my solid colour , join as you go blanket.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your ta dah, but in the mean time enjoy keeping warm as you work :0)

Absolutely magnificent! I was drooling earlier when I saw it on Instagram. Love the pics you take and post!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are taking up with this blanket again, it's gorgeous.

The blanket looks lovely so far and can't wait to see it when it's finally finished.
ReplyDeleteI have a "no two colors can touch" quilting friend. It's fun to watch her circling the blocks laid out on the floor, rearranging, rearranging...
ReplyDeleteThe afghan is lovely and perfect for cool spring nights.
I know how you feel about joining in different colors. No-one would notice, but you would always see THAT granny! I am working on two blankets (double bed size), for both my daughters. I am almost done with 2x 252 granny's. All granny's are different. And still before I am going to join them all together I laid them on my bed and arranged them so that, for example, no granny's with both pink in them are next to each other :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your afghan. It is great. Lovely colors!
I have the same obsession so i can understand you very well. I have an hexagon baby blanket which i have been trying to finish for almost a year... So maybe to know that you are not alone makes you feel a bit relaxed :)
ReplyDeleteIt's looking lovely, you MUST finish it!

It's gorgeous! x
ReplyDeleteOooh this is so pretty! I do the same thing when quilting or crocheting... spending way to much time analyzing the colors and where to put them. But you know, I think sometimes that's the fun part!
ReplyDeleteKeep going, it's beautiful!
LOVE IT!!! The yellow in the mix looks great I think x
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Sometimes the best color mix comes from when we just wing it. ~Patti
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I've been making gobs of granny squares. They are so much fun! Your color combo is fantabulous!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love the color combos so far and it's making me want to start my own spring blanket!
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be beautiful! Looks like you are on the home run now so I'm sure it will be ready for Spring x
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteLovely blanket. Definitely Spring! I just couldn't stop smiling when I read your post. I thought I was the only person having crazy ideas like no two grannys should be same color. Good to know I am not alone. Maybe I should ease up too and get on with my hexagon blanket. It has been lying unworked for a year now...I know shame on me! :) Thanks for the inspiration.

Ooh lovely colours! I've got a spring blanket still waiting to be finished from last year too, I doubt I'll be as good as you in attempting to get it finished though!

Oooh I love this. I've been looking EVERYWHERE for a pattern that starts with a circle like this. What pattern did you follow (am sure hubby would prefer you didnt too me because if u o I'll start a new blanket!!)
ReplyDeleteThanks xxx
That is a gorgeous blanket and I totally agree about not liking two squares any where near each other that have anything remotely similar!!!
